Sucha S. Mann
Sucha: I have served for seven years as the PEO-Ottawa Chapter Executive as the Past Chapter Chair, Chair of the Education, Chair of GLP, currently as Chair of Sustainability, and Chair of Awards. Ottawa Chapter has initiated regular Workshops on Sustainability and Climate Change with very good participation from our members and the public. The Chapter is now working to recognize distinguished service by the public, and our chapter volunteers. However, there are a number of issues that PEO have to address, and I believe that my perspective and experience can contribute to Council in a team oriented positive and constructive way.
2. What do you see as the three biggest issues facing our profession at this time?
Sucha: 1.
Sucha: See my web link:
4. If for some unfortunate, unforseen circumstance you had to withdraw from running, which of the other candidates for your position would you vote for...?
Sucha: You have good choice in all four candidates; but I will reserve my judgement until the voting is over.
Sucha: 1 At the PEO-Ottawa Chapter, I am currently Chair of the Sustainability, and Awards Committee where I have: a. Organized a Lunch and Learn on the ``Plastic-Planet``
Sucha: Approx. 30 days for the above activities. In addition running for this campaign and answering these questions.
8. Do you work full time, and if so, where?
Sucha: Currently I am self employed as a Sustainability and Management Consultant`, as required.
9. How much time do you predict you will have to devote to PEO activities in the upcoming year(s)?
Sucha: Approx. 45 days
Sucha: Financial Accountability in a Transparent way: There is concern that PEO`s expenses are out of control, for example true cost comparison for 40 Sheppard Ave W, and HQ staff cost.
Sucha: No Change to the regular annual membership fees. But CoA fees for self employed (and retired part timers doing small contracts) should be eliminated or reduced to less than $50/yr. There is no justification for the CoA fees for a self employed company.
14. What changes, if any, should be made to the current rennovation/new building plans?
Sucha: I do not have the full information, and therefore cannot comment
15. (This question may be a bit sensitive given current circumstances, but please don't take offense: people legitimately want to know your position.) Every so often, sub-groups of Engineers feel strongly enough about certain topics that they either initiate legal action, or threaten to do so. For what differences of opinion (eg which topics) do you feel that legal action against PEO is acceptable/a good idea/necessary?
Sucha: In North America, unfortunately when a executive officer is sued for wrong doing, the senior executives and the board acts like a club where the corporation agrees to settle with the regulator without anyone admitting any wrong doing, while the shareholders are forced to pay, and the wrong doers are allowed to go free- this is justice denied. Fundamentally, if there is not transparency in actions and the appropriate policies and procedures are not followed, the individuals responsible for such breaches of trust must be held accountable.
16. What would you do while in office, to address the concerns of the Ottawa Chapter?
Sucha: I would look forward to an open dialogue with the members of the Ottawa Chapter to hear their concerns, and make sure chapter volunteers` out of pocket expenses like driving mileages and parking for organizing events are fully refunded.
Sucha: Please see my link and I am open for suggestions:
