Stuart Lengel Sr. , 91 , formerly of Thompsontown , died Tuesday , Jan. 11 , 2000 in Perry Village Nursing Home , New BloomfieldHe was born May 10 , 1908 in Shoemakersville , Berks County , to the late Irvin D. and Elmira ( Hoffman ) Lengel.He served a number of midstate parishes and also taught school for 26 years in Juniata County and Steelton-Highspire districts , after becoming an emergency teacher during World War II.He was one of the first special education teachers in Juniata County.He founded Faith Lutheran Church , Richfield RR 1 , combining Stoney Run and St. Peter's Lutheran congregations , and remained a member of the church.He also developed and managed Lengel Orchards , Richfield and Loyalsville.Lengel served Rossville Parish , York County , Trinity Lutheran Church of McAlisterville , Stone Valley Lutheran Parish , Arbogast's , Mount Pleasant Mills RR 2 , St. Peter's Lutheran , Millerstown , Leiningers , Mount Pleasant Mills RR 2 , and Zion ( Hall's ) Lutheran , Port Trevorton , and served on synodical boards of Central Pennsylvania Synod.He was a graduate of Gettysburg College and Lutheran Theological Seminary and earned a master's at Penn State University.He was the widower of Sarah Anna Bieber Lengel , who died July 7 , 1996.
