"Hawaii's people have not put aside sufficient savings to deal with the risks of aging, and that's something that could come back to haunt all of us," said Long-Term Care Commission Chair Stuart Ho, who also serves as State President of AARP Hawaii.

Hawaii's top volunteer, AARP Hawaii State President Stuart Ho, comes from of one of the most famous business families in the state.
His father, legendary hotel developer Chinn Ho, turned the 'Ilikai into Hawaii's first luxury resort in the 1960s. Stuart himself enjoyed a long and successful career as a state legislator, attorney and executive, and served on the boards of such notable companies as Aloha Airlines and Pacific Resources. In a wide-ranging interview in the latest issue of Generations magazine, Stuart talks about growing up in Hawaii and how he came to be top volunteer of AARP. At 75 and recently retired as president and CEO of Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, he also comments on issues like Social Security and health care that keep him busier than ever: "There was a time when retirement meant the beginning of declining health and slower pace," he says. "Nowadays, when you reach the age of 50 you're just beginning the second half of your life and hitting your stride. The 50s, 60s, and 70s are a chance to reinvent yourself, whether you want to keep working, change careers, spend time with your family or search for a new adventure. But good health and financial security are the keys." In addition to his responsibilities as AARP state president, Stuart also serves as chair of the Long-Term Care Commission, established in 2008 to review Hawaii's current long-term care system and make recommendations to the state Legislature.
