The American Lung Association of California (ALAC) recently named Roslyn Bienenstock, RRT, MPH, former chief respiratory therapist at the Children's Hospital at Stanford, board chair while its medical section, the California Thoracic Society (CTS), named Ira Jeffry Strumpf, MD, president.Dr. Strumpf is physician in charge of the pulmonary division at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills.Dr. Strumpf could not agree more.He too is interested in finding more money for research.i be frustrated that Proposition 99 (tobacco tax) funds were diverted from research programs, he says.I would like to see more people come forward and contribute time or money to research..Dr. Strumpf has been active in the California Thoracic Society for nearly 20 years, serving on several committees including the Education Committee from 1991 to 1994 and the Government Affairs Committee from 1994 to 1997.He also volunteered for the American Lung Association of Los Angeles County, serving on the board from 1985 to 1991.Dr. Strumpf is a member of the California Medical Association and the American College of Executive Chest Physicians.i be hoping to carry on the tradition that the California Thoracic Society has as a respected professional society, Strumpf says.We will work closely with the American Lung Association of California in promoting lung health through research and education programs.Our combined efforts make us a strong advocate for patient care..The American Lung Association has been fighting lung disease for more than 90 years.With the generous support of the public and the help of our volunteers, we have seen many advances against lung disease.
