If Steven knew then that he was 10 minutes from the future world headquarters of Apple, his parents would have been looking for him on milk cartons until he was old enough to work in Apple marketing. 1973 age 8 Now in Michigan, Steven works at his Dad's Mobil gas station which to Steven is the coolest place in the world.Steven wins his first Punt, Pass & Kick trophy.The high school band marches past his house.Steven wants to play drums.At age 8, all he can do is watch.Also at age 8, Steven gets his first subscription to CAR AND DRIVER magazine. 1976 age 11 2 major life-changing events happen.1) Steven is old enough to start school band.Drums!2) Boston releases their first album.Nothing sounds like it.Steven is obsessed trying to make his drums sound like that record.He will fail, for now.Steven attends what would be the first of many summers at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.More drums. 1977 - 1981 age 12 to 16 School?Sure… but all he remembers is sitting behind his red sparkle Ludwig drum set, which still does not sound like the Boston record.Steven got his drivers license.His parents had a Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon.455 CI big block and a 4-barrel.He should not still be alive. 1982 age 17 Steven makes the snare line of the Coachmen Drum and Bugle Corps in Grand Rapids, Michigan.Steven must produce or go home.At 17, this would be his first dose of real world pressure and he becomes addicted to it.Another harsh reality he learned that year is that while he had spent his entire life learning to play drums, all the talented instructors and all the great players around him were living on beans and franks.He needed to figure out how to make a living.So Steven got involved in the invention and evolution of some music accessory products and hits the trade show circuit. 1983 age 18 Graduate High School, start College.Steven builds the first offices for the music products company.Drum stuff, new office, new employees.Steven is in way over his head, but is too excited to care. Steven now married with child, starts the Steven Volpp Drum Company and devotes all of his energy to drum design.His drums still don't sound like the Boston record, now they sound better!Patents are applied for.Steven is in way over his head, but is too excited to care. 1992 age 27 Steven's drums need a "big brother" to protect the patent so he cold called Peavey Electronics.Peavey asks Steven to come to work for them.The Volpp's move to Mississippi. 1993 - 1997 age 28 to 32 As Product Manager for Drum Products at Peavey Electronics Corporation, Steven built a 128,000 square foot plant in Mississippi.He would also establish manufacturing in Taiwan and China.Steven purchases a BMW M3 and starts autocrossing. Now as Artist Relations Manager at Peavey, Steven is somehow responsible for over 500 world renowned artists including Edward Van Halen, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Eve 6, Sevendust, Foo Fighters, Ted Nugent, and many more.Steven is responsible for the "vibe" of a worldwide company that does hundreds of millions in sales and has a Gulfstream G4.He would learn lots, fast, and make mistakes ... like turning down Nickleback.Steven's life is now drums, guitars and rock stars during the week, and racecars on the weekend. 2003 age 38 to present It has been twenty years since his first music industry trade show, and Steven is still under 40.So he decides to leave the big worldwide company - along with the nice big paychecks - and start Precision Racing Organization / Acme Branding Company.Steven remains excited.
