to admit error on Meridian garage deal

CLAYTON • St. Louis County Council member Steve Stenger said he may vote on Tuesday to withhold $5.9 million in funding to Metro transit to protest the agency's expenditure of that amount for a developer's share of a Brentwood parking garage.
"The only parties that do not think this was a terrible deal for taxpayers are Metro officials and the developer," Stenger
, a Democrat from the Affton area, said Thursday.
"Before I vote on (the appropriation) on Tuesday, I'd like someone at Metro
to acknowledge that this deal was ill-conceived," Stenger
said that he
does not believe a majority of the council would side with him if he
did vote against the appropriation.
"I'm hesitant to vote against it myself because I don't want to do anything that might hurt the current riders," he
