Rabbi Steven Rein received his rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in May, 2009. He also earned an M.A. in Talmud and Rabbinics from the Graduate School at JTS. He comes to AAC after five years as the Assistant Rabbi of Park Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan. Involved in all facets of synagogue life, he demonstrated that his number one priority was creating and nurturing meaningful relationships. To this end, he developed and implemented Mercaz Hesed (the synagogue's Caring Network) to better care for the entire community during times of joy and sorrow. He also had the opportunity to create NYC's only Conservative conversion program and an Interfaith "Trialogue" with local Catholic and Muslim communities. Rabbi Rein has taught numerous Adult Education classes as well as classes and programs for the Preschool, Religious School, High School, and B'nei Mitzvah. He has also served since 2011 as a member of the Religious Leadership Advisory Board of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Outside of his synagogue responsibilities, Rabbi Rein serves our country as a reserve chaplain in the United States Air Force. Commissioned in 2005 he has since served our nation's airmen at Hanscom AFB, MA, the United States Air Force Academy, CO, Wright Patterson AFB, OH, Bolling Air Force Base, DC, and Langley AFB, VA. Rabbi Rein was promoted to Captain in October 2010 and has recently been reassigned to Joint Base Andrews, MD.
Born and raised in Fairfield, NJ, Rabbi Rein is a graduate of New York University where he majored in Jewish History and Civilization with a minor in Chemistry. He is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New Jersey Devils.

Rabbi Steven Rein hasn't started packing yet. But by July 1, he'll have left Park Avenue Synagogue in New York and joined Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria as the Conservative synagogue's new rabbi.
"After Shavuot [in June] we'll start to wind down," says Rein (pronounced "reen"), who has been assistant rabbi at Park Avenue since graduating from Jewish Theological Seminary in 2009.
Although Rein is a New Jersey native, the move to Northern Virginia will be a homecoming of sorts.

, Rabbi Rein always thought he would be a doctor. In college, while dating his now wife, Jodi, he discovered that her study of Bible and Talmud interested him more than the courses he was taking in chemistry. He switched gears and graduated with a minor in chemistry and a major in Jewish history and civilization. He then married Jodi, who is now a reading specialist and teacher at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County, New Jersey .Rabbi Rein and Jodi anticipate the birth of their first child in October.
While he attended rabbinic school, Rabbi Rein was commissioned in 2005 as a reserve chaplain in the United States Air Force. He has since served our nation's airmen at Hanscom AFB, MA, the United States Air Force Academy, CO, and Wright Patterson AFB, OH.Rabbi Rein was promoted as a First Lieutenant in August 2009 and continues to serve as a chaplain at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington

As a rabbinical student, Rabbi Rein was honored with numerous scholarships and awards, including being named a Legacy Heritage Rabbinic Fellow, receiving the Rabbi Albert Pappenheim Prize in Professional Skills, and being awarded the National Defense Service Medal by the United States Air Force.
