Dr. Steven Kipnis, medical director of the state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, said the new school would bring instructors together to present the latest developments in the field.
"It is our intention to make it the pre-eminent program in the region," Kipnis
said."Class will be exciting and challenging. It will also be fun and an opportunity to enter the field of addiction, which is growing in scope each year." The school will be run by Kipnis; Ruth Maxwell, the council's executive director; and George Serdinsky, a chemical dependency counselor at the Blaisdell Addiction Treatment Center at Rockland Psychiatric Center.
Serdinsky said that in addition to himself, Maxwell and Kipnis
, as many as 30 visiting doctors, social workers and counselors would teach courses.
