"It's a tough question to answer." Mr. Greenwald said that he has repeatedly sought help from Oppenheimer & Co. Steven Greenwald, Telemus Capital president and chief operating officer, says the company's strategic goal is to have $20 billion worth of assets under management within three years, and to have offices in 10 metropolitan areas nationwide. Greenwald says negotiations are under way in three other cities outside Texas, which he declined to name. "Once we had made our decision to (come to Houston) we wanted to go after the best people and started sitting down with guys like us who wanted to go out on their own," Greenwald says.Telemus plans to open offices with select teams and to go after the "very high-end net worth market," according to Greenwald. Reid, who was named as one of the country's Top 100 wealth advisers by Worth magazine in 2006, says he and Dawson had considered setting up their own local firm but opted to join Telemus instead. "We looked at the risk and reward and thought it might be more risky for clients as a startup with no back office," he says.
