is almost a half billion dollar entity.
The district has to work with nine different unions.
One of the goals the district has this year is to empower the school principals to run their schools.
also told us about the district s plan to create dependent charter schools to compete with the independent charter schools that draw over 330 students from Stockton Unified.
One in particular he
discussed was a Health Careers Academy
which will give students an edge in education centered on opportunities in the Health industry.
Finally, Mr. Smith
discussed the challenges the district faces knowing that there is a planned cut of 28.3 million dollars from the State of California and running a district where 93% of expenses are in staffing.
concluded by asking city business leaders to hold the School Board accountable, encourage volunteerism and look for ways to help the district keep the kids in school.
