More seed sales in Mexico would boost Idaho producers, said Steve Salisbury, extension agent in Twin Falls County for the University of Idaho.
"It definitely would be a benefit for growers here in the Magic Valley and Treasure Valley," Salisbury said.
Idaho growers are seeing more opportunities in seed markets, as price pressures hit the commercial bean markets, he said.
Idaho grows quality bean seed because it has the right climate and soil, and water for irrigation. But irrigation also hikes the cost of growing commercial beans here, compared to producing dryland beans in the Midwest, he said.
"We're getting kind of squeezed out of commercials because of the lower cost of production in the Midwest," Salisbury said.
