Dale and Ruth's four sons also work for the company: Patrick, 37, is vice president and treasurer, responsible for overseeing all operations; Kevin, 30, is vice president of the equipment division and assistant company secretary; Steven, 33, is communications director and runs the family's real estate company, Michels Investments; and Tim, 34 formerly a major in the U.S. Army, is joining the company this month after receiving an MBA in executive management from the University of Chicago.
Although the bulk of the company's work is in the United States, Michels
has done work in the past in Canada, Micronesia and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and is looking toward expanding into Central and South America, Steven
said the success of the company is due to its ability to locate emerging markets and adapting to them-for instance, recognizing the emergence of directional drilling as an area to be concentrated on.
