Vice Mayor Steve LealHorizontal ruleSteve Leal was born in Oakland, California and raised in the East Bay area.Mr. Leal served with honor in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam from 1967-1969.He is a graduate in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Cruz where he attended on a Ford Foundation Minority Scholarship. Mr. Leal moved to Tucson in 1977, enrolled in graduate studies in political science at the University of Arizona and became active in various community efforts including the Salvation Army Hospitality House, Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission and the Citizens Transportation Advisory Commission. Steve Leal is also a member of the State Board of Directors of the 100 Club, the Arizona-Mexico Commission appointed by Governor Napolitano, as well as being an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Since the mid 1980s, Mr. Leal has been engaged in property management and development, and in 1993 was hired by the Pima County Sheriff's Department with his primary responsibility being Facilities Management.He continues that work to the present day. In 1989, Steve Leal was elected to the Tucson City Council as representative of the Southside Ward V. He was re-elected to that post in 1993, 1997, 2001 and for an unprecedented 5th term in 2005.Mr. Leal continues to bring forward issues related to constituents in his Ward which encompasses a large portion of the southside of Tucson as well as issues pertaining to the entire City of Tucson.
