For Steve Baker
, running has long been a passion as he
enjoys the mental and physical challenge of an intense, long distance race.
These days however, competing in ultra marathons has taken on new meaning for Steve, COO of the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton, as he aims to raise significant funds for a cause very close to his heart.
Today Ella is a healthy and happy six year old and Steve
is very grateful to the NICU at the Royal Alex
for the excellent care his
daughter received and is determined to give back.
will be competing as a soloist in two of the most well-known, and perhaps infamous ultra marathons in Alberta: Sinister 7 and the Canadian Death Race.
The races are 148 km and 125 km respectively and participants run for upwards of 24 hours in both races.
First up is Sinister 7 on July 7 and 8th in Crowsnest Pass and just a few weeks later is the Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache on August 4 - 5th.
has run in both races on a relay team since they started, it was just last year that he
first completed the Death Race as a soloist.
This year however he
has decided to up the difficulty factor by attempting to complete both races solo in the same year.
- Sinister 7 Race
competes in last year's Canadian Death Race.
"It is community support and a generous spirit like Steve's
that allows us to continue delivering exceptional patient care."
