is best known in Jackson as the conductor of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra
, choral music played a very important part in his
early development as a musician.His
earliest concert memories were listening to his
uncle conduct the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on tour at Orchestra Hall in Chicago.High School choral activities were many and then at the age of 18 he attended the University of Utah for one year and sang as the youngest member of the Tabernacle Choir.A transfer to Northwestern University and several public school teaching jobs followed until after graduate school at Yale University he was appointed Director of Choral Activities at the State University of New York at Albany.
In addition to Richard Condie, his
was privileged to work with such famous choral conductors as Robert Shaw, Clayton Krehbiel, Robert Fountain, Margaret Hillis and Herman Genhart.This is Stephen's third year as current Conductor and Music Director of the Jackson Chorale
was also the Chorale's
director a number of years ago.
