And they made a riveting pair, he long-limbed and powerful, she tiny and precise, both of them with delicate steps as if they had deer-hooves instead of feet.

Rancho Bernardo resident Stephanie Maiorano and dance partner Joseph Hochschild will perform in San Diego Ballet's "Preludes and Poetry" on Oct. 25 and 26 at the Lyceum Theatre.
Maiorano, a principal dancer with San Diego Ballet, is dancing in the mixed repertoire production "Preludes and Poetry" at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in the Lyceum Theatre at Horton Plaza. Maiorano will be in three pieces - the classical pas de deux "Suite Italienne" with Maxim Tchernychev set to the music of Igor Stravinsky; "Love: 20 Cents the First Quarter-Mile," a pas de deux with Joseph Hochschild set to the music of Bert Turetsky and poetry of Kenneth Fearing; and company piece "How High the Moon" set to the music of Les Paul and Mary Ford. "'Love: 20 Cents' is a collection of poetry and probably one of the strangest," Maiorano said. Because the audience is unlikely to have seen anything like this, Maiorano said they are likely to ask "Wow ... what am I seeing? or say, "That was amazing." The company piece that concludes the show is "Fun Americana" that will be reminiscent of 1950s black and white television shows, she said.
