At that time, Stephanie was the associate pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where some of the general's family were members. She also has served as pastor of Sherwood United Methodist.

For Stephanie Caldwell, servant leadership as an Army spouse means -- among other things -- supporting other spouses of military personnel, encouraging those whose loved ones are killed in combat and visiting wounded soldiers. Some of her leadership roles are performed alongside her husband but often not. Around Fort Leavenworth, she is sometimes asked to preach and speak to other groups. Her divinity degree is from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky.
When Lt. Gen. Caldwell was most recently deployed to Iraq, he was the chief spokesman and Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Effects for the Multi-National Force in Iraq for 13 months; Stephanie stayed behind at Fort Benning with their three youngest children. Though she grew up in Columbus, Stephanie said Friday she "did not have a clue what went on behind the gates of Fort Benning.

Caldwell educated civilian audience members on seven key values taught to soldiers: loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity, personal courage and selfless service.
He also encouraged his listeners to figure out their definition of success, and to fight the natural temptation to base it on monetary wealth or prestige. "Success is about being able to look at your subordinates and watch them grow," he said.
...
Caldwell told the Ledger-Enquirer that while he would readily report to either victor, the election of Sen. Barack Obama was a lesson in the American political process, in that a person of relative obscurity can rise to the highest elected office.
"It was an incredible demonstration of what democracy is all about," he said.
In addition to his presentation Friday, Lt. Gen. Caldwell spoke to students at Brookstone School on Thursday. He and his family will return to Kansas early next week.
