Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications)(Honours)(University of Melbourne), PhD (Media and Communications)(University of Melbourne)
joined the Media and Communications program in 2011.
Prior to that, she worked as a sessional lecturer and subject coordinator in the University of Melbourne's School of Culture and Communication and School of Social and Political Sciences.
Dr. Brookes has also worked at the Melbourne Writers' Festival, Crikey! and The Reader magazine.
From September 2011-July 2012, Dr. Brookes
was a Visiting Researcher in the School of Communication, Culture and Technology at Georgetown University
On 22 March 2012 she
presented a public seminar 'Asian Anxiety: Australia and the Asia-Pacific' at the Centre for Australian
and New Zealand Studies, Georgetown University
has written a blog post 'The US Relationship to the Asia-Pacific' outlining some of the seminar's themes.
is currently developing a book extending the results of her
doctoral research, tracing a dual history of campaign communication and media technology in Australian federal elections.
is the recipient of a Manuscript Sponsorship from the University of Melbourne's
Writing Centre for Scholars and Researchers to support this project.
new research will undertake a comparative analysis of frameworks of global, national and local identity in discussions of China and the Asia-Pacific region in Australian and United States political and news discourses.
