July 8 - "A Happy Coincidence" - Rev. Stefanie Etzbach-Dale - Rev. Etzbach-Dale joins us as minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Santa Clarita Valley, CA.
She lives in Santa Monica, with her Beloved, and an assortment of four-legged companions. She serves the Pacific Southwest District as Consultant, as well as co-founder of the Addictions & Recovery Ministry Team. She likes to draw and sing Karaoke and spends every summer in the Berkshires with her mother Inge.

This year, we also benefited from our intern minister, Rev. Stefanie Etzbach-Dale, who served in the pulpit several Sundays.
The Small Group Ministry program was launched under the leadership of Stefanie Etzbach-Dale, who introduced the concept to UUSM by an extensive training program in early 2004. In May 2004, she helped set up a Covenant Group Implementation Team with the charter to start forming covenant groups in the Fall of 2004.

The board approved the donation of all the May 16 non-pledge collection to Meadville Theological Seminary in honor of nine months of service of our intern minister, Stefanie Etzbach-Dale, who received her pastoral training there.
Andy Stewart announced that Stefanie Etzbach-Dale's mid-term evaluation will be conducted in January. Stefanie Etzbach-Dale reported her plans for creating Covenant Groups whose focus is relationship-building and spiritual growth. She is using a model from many other UU congregations, 80% of which report increased enthusiasm, participation and donations as a result of the covenant project. A task force is being planned to organize the training of group facilitators that will be conducted by Stefanie in the spring.

UUSM - Newsletters - From Our Minister

Nearly a dozen Roman Catholic nuns, two rabbis, a Methodist minister, an Episcopal priest, and four Unitarian Universalist ministers (Ernie Pipes, Stefanie Etzbach-Dale, Paul Sawyer, and me) gathered to speak out against the death penalty.
Our congregational vote March 6 to ordain Stefanie Etzbach-Dale to the Unitarian Universalist ministry is an important event not only for Stefanie but also for our church. Stefanie has worked hard to arrive at this point in her training for ministry. She has met with the Ministerial Fellowship Committee, the credentialing body of the Unitarian Universalist Association; she has completed her internship, and she will graduate from Meadville- Lombard Theological School this May. It is time for her to be recognized as a Unitarian Universalist minister. Our experience of ministry grew this year, as Intern Minister Stefanie Etzbach-Dale came to work with us for nine months. Stefanie has contributed greatly to the life of our church. She has brought to us her spirituality, her pastoral sensitivity, and her enthusiasm for Unitarian Universalism, as well as her experience in covenant groups, among her many gifts. We also will thank our intern minister, Stefanie Etzbach-Dale, for her service to the church. An intern minister agrees to serve as well as learn, and Stefanie is eager to do both during her time with us. To determine how Stefanie could best serve our congregation, we looked for areas in which she could make a contribution right from the start. Her introduction of "Covenant Groups," small groups that meet for spiritual exploration, is one way in which she is serving us. Stefanie is also working with the Caring Network (see her column this month for more on that topic) and the Adult Religious Growth and Learning Committee. Stefanie is learning about leading worship and preaching, religious education, church governance and organization, and what life in a Unitarian Universalist church is all about. Stefanie and I meet each week for two hours of supervision and communicate frequently throughout the week. We debrief on her activities, review her goals, and reflect on what it means to be a parish minister. What I have discovered in the first three months of her nine-month internship is that this is a learning experience for me as well as for Stefanie.
