Fort Bend ISD Board Trustee Stan ...
Fort Bend ISD Board Trustee Stan Magee called the proposed raises inadequate, and said teachers "really deserve $2,500" in the form of an annual raise.
The proposal is about half of the amount sought for teachers by the Fort Bend Employee Federation
, which has asked for a 4.5% salary increase, in addition to the $425-per-teacher provided by the state.
"Texas is still 37th in the nation in terms of teachers pay.
I think this district needs to step forward and make a commitment to our employees - and they're not doing it," Magee
said after the meeting.
indicated money for more generous raises could be found in the district's undesignated fund balance - an account somewhat similar to a contingency fund.
said the fund contains sufficient money to pay for 80 to 85 days worth of district operating costs, while the district's policy recommends only keeping enough to operate for 30 to 45 days.
