Dr. Copeland's undergraduate degrees are from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas (Associate of Arts) and from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana (Bachelor of Arts in Sociology).
He was an honor graduate of St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri, where he received the Roy M. Brady Preaching Award and Scholarship and the Oubri Poppele Research and Study Award.
He received his Doctorate of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, with an emphasis on spiritual leadership in a post-modern world.
has written two evangelism booklets: The Aldersgate Club
and The Calling Waves.
authored The Sanctuary for Lent 1993 and he
was selected in 1995 as an author for Holy Week devotions in Disciplines 1995.

was reared in a small East Texas United Methodist Church in Chandler, Texas.
After being ordained a Deacon in 1983, and seminary graduation he became the Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Henderson, Texas, a county seat town in the old oil patch of East Texas.
He served First Church, Houston for seven years.
In 1993, Dr. Copeland was appointed Senior Pastor of Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas.
In April of 1998, Dr. Copeland was appointed to Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
is married to Tammy, and they have two children, Zachary Barnes and Emily Grace.
