Stacie Doss, nurse manager and group facilitator at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital, says a healthy dose of hope is what you'll find among those who participate in her hospital's monthly breast cancer support group.
Every fourth Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the group gathers in the conference room just off the hospital's cafeteria.
Sometimes, they'll catch up on the happenings of the past month, share developments or concerns or learn from one another's experiences with treatments or physicians.
Other times the group will participate in lectures from a variety of medical staff or do special projects to reach out to the community.
Then sometimes, they'll just laugh and have fun, Doss

The meetings are open to the public and include participants that are newly diagnosed as well as many who are years into remission.
Refreshments are provided, and a door prize is given away at each meeting.

said another idea to help you remember to self-exam includes making the exam coincide with picking up monthly medications from the pharmacy.

Additionally, for those women 40 or older, a mammogram is recommended annually.
For those with a family history of breast cancer, consult with your doctor as mammograms at an earlier age may be recommended.
