Simon Ellis colour Simon Ellis is a Partner within Hugh James and has worked with the firm for more than eleven years, having trained and qualified here. During this time Simon has developed a leading reputation advising former miners seeking compensation for Vibration White Finger as a result of their employment with British Coal. This case is the second largest piece of civil litigation in British legal history, second only to the claim made on behalf of men suffering with chest disease due to their work in the mines. Simon has assisted in negotiations with the Claims Handlers for British Coal and the Government, to co-ordinate these claims. The VWF Department at Hugh James has recovered many hundreds of thousands of pounds on behalf of former miners suffering with this condition. Simon is now leading efforts to claim compensation on behalf of former mine workers suffering with osteoarthritis of the knees, due to their employment in the mines. He is able to bring his considerable experience of mining claims to bear on behalf his clients. Simon also heads the Group dealing with recovery actions on behalf of victims of flooding. He acted for the claimants in the case of Arscottand Others v the Coal Authority and Merthyr Tydfil CBC , a Court of Appeal ruling which set the law relating to flooding from rivers and natural water courses. He regularly contributes articles for the legal and insurance press, dealing with flooding matters. Asbestos exposure solicitor Simon Ellis has today commented on reports suggesting that a high number of public buildings in Pembrokeshire contain harmful asbestos.
Simon represents clients across Wales who have suffered illnesses such as mesothelioma, a cancer of the lung, after being exposed to asbestos fibres. He has also been successful in pursing personal injury compensation for both high and low asbestos exposure victims. The report published by the Western Telegraph found, through a freedom of information request, that a high number of public buildings including schools, hospitals, libraries and leisure centres in Pembrokeshire contain asbestos. At a recent full council meeting it was revealed that out of 70 schools in the county, 64 contained some form of asbestos. Simon Ellis, specialist in mesothelioma compensation claims says "Pembrokeshire isn't the only county in Wales, or even the UK, to have asbestos within the structure of their public buildings.
