Dr Shideh Pouria qualified in 1991 from King's College London and has worked in numerous clinical and academic posts within the NHS and most recently held a consultant post in Renal Medicine at Guy's Hospital. She has extensive experience in both general and renal medicine. Her research interest has been in the field of mucosal immunology. She has published on the glycobiology of IgA as well as the role of infections and environmental factors in kidney patients. It was through her PhD project on the biology of IgA in renal and hepatic disease that she became interested in the role of environmental factors in health and disease. She embarked on her training with the British Society for Ecological Medicine in 2006 and has practiced in the field of environmental and nutritional medicine at the Burghwood Clinic since 2008. Her current area of clinical and research interest is the role of the environment (exposome) in the development of both allergic and hypersensitivity reactions as well as chronic inflammatory disease. She is a visiting research fellow at King's College London where she will be exploring the role of the gut flora (microbiome) and environmental factors such as xenobiotics and metals on the immune system.
