"Faculty and students did the research and writing, but Pacific Power was really the driving force and put the document together," said Sheri Stuart, coordinator of Oregon Main Street.

Pacific Power executives have shown a lot of enthusiasm for the project, Stuart said.
"We began talking with them a couple of years ago," she said. "As we were talking about historic buildings and the specific challenges associated with them, they really took that to heart. It was a really great partnership and a really project. The outcome is going to be a very useful tool in Oregon."
Particularly useful, Stuart said, is that the information is geared toward buildings in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. She added that she has seen similar guides published in other states, but their information is usually generic. This guide is different, she said.
"It is very specific to our communities, our buildings and our resources," Stuart said.
Oregon Main Street works with communities to develop revitalization strategies based on their unique assets, character and heritage. The guide should help, Stuart said, because it is specifically geared for owners of small commercial properties and business people associated with historic buildings.

"This conference is a great way to look at the 'big picture' of downtown revitalization by discovering fresh ideas and learning numerous ways to turn your historic downtown or neighborhood commercial district into a bustling center of activity," said Sheri Stuart, coordinator of the Oregon Main Street Program.
