Sher Afgan Niazi passes away 12 October, 2012
LAHORE: Former federal minister Dr Sher Afgan Niazi passed away after prolonged liver complications in Mianwali on Thursday.
Dr Niazi had been fighting liver cancer for the last six months and was unconscious for the past four days. Politicians from all parties expressed their grief over the demise, saying that Dr Niazi was a politician of high repute and his services for promotion of democracy and supremacy of the constitution would be remembered for a long time.
Hailing from Mianwali, Niazi was the minister for parliamentary affairs during former president Pervez Musharraf's regime. He had been elected to the National Assembly in 2002 as a member of the Pakistan People's Party and later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid.

Sher Afgan Niazi, former law and parliamentary affairs minister, passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness.
Niazi had been fighting liver cancer for the last six months and was unconscious for the past four days.
He had been elected to the National Assembly as a member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in 2002 and had later joined Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q). He had been twice elected as an member of the provincial assembly (MPA).
On 18th February, 2008, he lost the general election to an independent candidate, Humair Hayat Khan Rokhri.
Afterwards, Niazi joined former president Pervez Musharraf s newly formed political party, the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). However, he later resigned from the party following differences with the leadership.
