Rabbi Israel ShemtovRabbiWatch.com :: View topic - Rabbi Israel ShemtovRabbi Israel ShemtovPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2005 9:14 am Post subject: Rabbi Israel Shemtov Reply with quoteHasidic Rabbi Arrested for Hate Crime in Alleged Vehicular Assault of Black Teens The leader of a Jewish vigilante group organized by ultra-orthodox rabbis in the predominantly black Crown Heights section of Brooklyn was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, police in New York said April 25, after he drove his car onto a sidewalk to chase a group of black teen-agers, most of whom are immigrants from the Caribbean islands. The N.Y. Police Department classified the incident as a possible hate crime, because Rabbi Israel Shemtov was alleged to have used the "N" word and other racial epithets as he allegedly attempted to assault the negro youths with his car. There were no injuries, but the rabbi was issued an appearance ticket by officers from the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights. However, due to the tremendous political clout of Hasidic Jews in N.Y. it is likely Shemtov will not be prosecuted or that he will receive only a token fine.No other faction in N.Y. is allowed to operate a vigilante group, except Jews, who do so legally. According to the N.Y. Times of April 26, the black teen-agers, "told the police that at about 2:45 Thursday afternoon they saw the rabbi near the intersection of Kingston and Montgomery Streets and exchanged stares.Moments later, Shemtov drove his car onto the sidewalk and attempted to run down the youths, said Deputy Inspector Michael Collins, a police spokesman. The teen-agers wrote down the car's license-plate number and identified the rabbi in a line-up, Collins said. "Shemtov, who has been arrested several times for clashes with the police, said that the teen-agers had thrown a bottle at him and that he had called 911 for help.

G-d will not allow anyone to completely eradicate authentic Torah observance from the People of Israel.
When another challenge to the Sinaitic tradition arose from within the ranks of Israel, namely, the Sadducee faction, the Sages of Israel, lead by Simeon ben Shetach and his colleagues, waged a fierce battle against them. Again, divine assistance brought a victory those who stood up to defend the purity of the tradition handed down over the generations, from Moses onward. Two thousand years ago, the Hellenists and the Sadducees had the upper hand; where are they today? Their names appear only on the pages of ancient history; the People of Israel remain a small but vital component of modern society, whose influence on the world scene extends far beyond what their numeric strength would lead us to expect. With the Spanish Expulsion of all Jews in 1492, a new era of Torah scholarship and enlightenment dawned in Israel's Galilee. The renowned Rabbi Israel Baal Shemtov founded the Hassidic movement. When the war drew to a close, they were able to leave China for Israel and the United States. This memorable edition was distributed wherever Jewish survivors had gathered in Europe and Israel. Both miracles testify to the unique historical role of Israel. Because Israel, and Israel alone, has been assigned an essential task to complete in this world, it cannot and will not disappear from the stage of world history. The chronicles of our people, as cited above, and in countless other instances, demonstrate beyond a doubt that it is the Guardian of Israel who is also the Guardian of the Torah of Israel.

Israel identifies itself as a Jewish state.
In the case of Jewish terrorists Wikipedia includes the disclaimer:: Some of these Jewish groups believe that God gave Jews the land of Israel and so they advocate ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Israel, West Bank and Gaza). The nation of Israel is pure. They sacrificed many years for the people of Israel. Rabbi Avraham Hecht said that surrendering any of the Land of Israel violated halakah (Jewish law), and anyone who did so could be killed as a rodef, "one who pursues a Jew trying to kill him. Rabbi HaRav Yitzchak Nissim, the Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel said in 1968, "The Land of Israel was, with its borders, defined for us by Divine Providence. Thou shalt be, says the Almighty, and there it is. No power on earth can alter that which was created by Him. In this connection it is not a question of law or logic, neither is it a matter of human treatment or that sort of thing. http://www.isfsp.org/gaza2.html Rabbi Shmuel Pappenheim, editor of the Eida Haredit's weekly magazine "Ha'eidah" and the Rabbinical Court in Israel held a special session and discussed placing a pulsa danura on those who have a hand in organizing a gay march. Thus, we do not have a case of profound change in which a person is merely on a superior level. RABBI ISRAEL SHEMTOV seems to pop up in the right place at the right time.Three years ago in his Crown Heights neighborhood, he rescued a woman who, bleeding profusely from nearly a dozen bullet wounds, was crawling out of a basement. He hauled her into his car and sped to a nearby hospital. On Monday, three years to the day, he was driving over the Brooklyn Bridge when he stopped and talked a distraught man out of jumping.Others might say he has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The founder of a Lubavitch Hasidim neighborhood patrol, Rabbi Shemtov admits with a sly smile that he has been arrested "many times" for obstructing government administration. In the sometimes zealous pursuit of assorted bad guys, as well as in reaction to insults to his brethren, he has been charged over the years with assault, rioting and just plain getting in the way.Sometimes he bends the rules. But he insists that he always follows the Book."In different parts of the Torah, it is quoted that he who saves one soul, it is as if he saved the entire world," said Rabbi Shemtov, a pixie-ish man with gray hair and a red-flecked beard."It's totally immaterial whether they're black or white or any race or religion or color.A human being you have to help."Other people would just as soon walk away from a fracas or a crime rather than risk injury or arrest.Rabbi Shemtov says he can't ignore what goes on around him.His record, as well as the numerous cars he has driven into the ground after one chase too many, is the price he cheerfully pays."Any lady cooking in her house would have bandages in the medicine cabinet," he said. With traffic backed up, Rabbi Shemtov began to shout up to the man."He was yelling and screaming that he was taking his life," Rabbi Shemtov said.A good amount of that is attributable to Israel Shemtov and his involvement in the neighborhood."It's in his nature: Do what you can.Take a chance."Why should I put my neck out?"Rabbi Shemtov asked.A founder of Shmira, Rabbi Israel Shemtov, said he was not familiar with the details in this incident or the people involved.Of the two patrols, he said he often joked that he would like to "lock you both in one room until you straighten it out and come out as one unit."Of the 500 teens who participated in the survey, 52% said they believe Israel faces "a certain threat of destruction" and 30% said they believe "Israel is under a serious threat of destruction," up from 24% who saw a serious threat in last year's survey. The vast majority of the respondents - 91% - were found to have an awareness of global anti-Semitism, but 80% had never personally encountered anti-Semitism themselves. The average Israeli teen, according to the researchers, says he or she has only a small or reasonable amount of knowledge and tools to react in the face of anti-Semitism.Schools are the major source of awareness of anti-Semitism - but half of those polled said they felt they should be learning more.Thirty percent said they had no awareness of acts against Jewish institutions in Israel."Yet there is a growing awareness of contemporary anti-Semitism and threats to Israel's existence.
