Shayne Hughes, CEO at Learning for Leadership, was the boss who mandated the experiment - and outlined just how other workplaces can carry out their own "no-email" experiment.
Why ban email?
Hughes believes workers can get addicted to email without even realizing it. He also argues that there's a feeling senders get when emailing someone with a problem or issue - a misplaced feeling of relief.
It's as if that person is simply detailing their problem, clicking send, and all of a sudden that problem is now someone else's.
Dealing with email, Hughes believes, also distracts employees from strategic thinking and discussions.
Though there were some concerns from employees and execs, Hughes went ahead with the experiment.
