House Majority Whip Shawn Jasper said Bettencourt called him yesterday afternoon to say he wouldn't be running again.
, who spent eight years away from the House
after serving in his
early 30s, said Bettencourt has "plenty of time to come back and make an impact on the Legislature."
"Quite seriously, I've been thinking if I'm going to run again, at $100 a year and all that's going on," said Jasper
, a nine-term Hudson Republican.
"That is not an experiment that went terribly well," Jasper
said, adding that "everybody really needs to be accountable to one person."
