"We want to call attention to children's mental health awareness in our communities," said Sharon DeBerry, project coordinator for commUNITYcares.
"These issues are in every city, town and community in our state."
More than 36,000 youths in Mississippi, she
said, suffer from some type of mental health illness, part of the more than 4.5 million youth combating mental health issues nationwide.
With two-thirds of those youths going untreated, DeBerry
said their agency strives to raise awareness about treatment options.

...Sharon DeBerry, LMFTMs. DeBerry received her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993.She is licensed in MS as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.Ms. DeBerry is the coordinator of Forrest County Child and Adolescent Services for Pine Belt.She also is the Project Director for CommUNITY Cares, a multi-million dollar grant to provide a system of coordinated, individualized care for children 10-18 affected by serious emotional disturbance or co-occurring SED and substance misuse in Forrest, Lamar, and Marion Counties.Ms. DeBerry
works with interns while they are on the Child Adolescent Rotation by providing extra supervision, paperwork training, and orientation to working with children and families in a community mental health setting.
