Shannon Washer
A Borger woman is in the custody of Amarillo police after allegedly passing fake money at different locations throughout the Texas Panhandle. On Friday, Aug. 12, at 8:20 p.m., Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of South Bell on a person attempting to pass a possible counterfeit bill. Shannon Washer, 36, of Borger had tried to buy merchandise with what the clerk believed were counterfeit bills. When the manager did not take the money, Washer took the money and left the property, according to reports from the Amarillo police. She was reportedly seen walking toward the intersection of 34th and Bell. Officers started to check the area and found her in a nearby parking lot. Washer was detained and returned back to the original location, where she was positively identified as the female that tried purchasing items with counterfeit money. When she was detained, she was also in possession of several $20 bills and two $1 bills. As officers looked at the denomination of the bills, it was determined that the $20s all had the same serial number and the $1s had the same serial number. The female was identified as Washer. She was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche that was located in the parking lot in the 3300 block of South Bell, according to police reports. A search warrant was obtained and issued for the Chevrolet and several more pieces of counterfeit bills were located in the vehicle. In total, there were 23 counterfeit $100s, 13 counterfeit $20s, and 13 counterfeit $10s, according to police reports. Washer was transported and booked into Randall County for counterfeiting. A hold was placed on her for the Secret Service as well.
