Mr. Shane Fitzgibbon has been instrumental in spreading IUTF Taekwon Do throughout Galway and the west of Ireland. He is the second of Master Dalton's students to be promoted to 5th Dan black belt and is a member of the IUTF Executive Committee. Mr. Fitzgibbon is a graduate of University College Galway (science) and is also a qualified sports instructor with ITEC. He is the host of the annual Connaught Championships and is particularly proud of his new crop of junior students who have come to feature prominently at a national level since 2000. He has featured as an author in Irish Fighter magazine and most recently ,has been commissioned to produce a column on exercise & health in Galway First newspaper. As a competitor, Mr. Fitzgibbon is currently the captain of the Irish Senior Male Team and has also represented Europe three times winning gold on each occasion. He has won ten World medals in the space of seven years - four of them gold.

On March 27th, Mr. Fitzgibbon travelled to Lagos, Nigeria as part of ITF Taekwon-do Team Europe, in the 2nd Intercontinental Taekwon-do championship, against Africa.This was Mr. Fitzgibbon's first calling to the European Team, however he has been Irish team captain on numerous occasions.In Lagos, Mr. Fitzgibbon also had the honour of assisting senior Taekwon-do officials as they initiated the process of incorporating a number of non-affiliated African Taekwon-do organisations into the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF).

Mr. Fitzgibbon won his fight clearly by using punishing hand combinations and utilising his strength to dominate his opponent.Once the match was over, both teams were the best of friends, as is the spirit of Taekwon-do.Mr. Fitzgibbon looks forward to a return visit to Nigeria, as, "training with the local practitioners has furthered my admiration and respect for them, due to their hunger to learn new aspects of TKD training."

The chief instructor of Connacht Taekwon-do Schools, Shane Fitzgibbon, and Instructor, Lisa Connolly, brought nine young, ambitious students to Kettering, England to compete in the largest event for junior Taekwon-do students in Europe.

Shane Fitzgibbon, 3rd degree black belt, who is the chief instructor of the Connacht Taekwon-do Academy, hosted the event.The tournament was attended by martial artists from all over the country, all of whom had a thoroughly enjoyable day.There were approximately two hundred competitors participating in more than forty categories of sparring and patterns.The highlight of the day was the Red/Black belt sparring which gave the spectators and junior members the chance to see some of the acrobatic kicking techniques that Taekwon-do is famous for.Fitzgibbon and co-instructor Lisa Connolly had students participating from both the Connacht Taekwon-do Academy and the steadily growing Kingfisher Club Taekwon-do classes.
