Town Supervisor Seth Pitts said the memorial will take place at 5 p.m. at the town courthouse.
It was set up by United Methodist ChurchPastor Debbie Bessie and First United Presbyterian ChurchPastor Donna Frischknecht-Jackson.
"Something like this really rocks the core," Pitts
said the last time something approaching this magnitude happened in Salem was in 1976, when he
was in high school.
That year, a massive fire burned the town library and offices.
In that incident, he
said, there were no fatalities.
