Senators approved on June 10 the request of the Prosecutor's Office of the High Court of Appeals and Justice to endorse the beginning of the criminal pursuit of PSD Senator Serban Mihailescu. The former minister of the General Secretariat of the Government in PSD administration is charged with having received from his personal counselor Fanel Pavalache, whom he had previously appointed in this office, hunting guns which he held during April-October 2002, without having a license.

UNPR Senator Serban Mihailescu, also known by the nick-name of 'Miki Spaga' / 'Miki Bribe', was convicted yesterday by the Supreme Court, who handed down a one year suspended sentence in the 'Hunting Rifles' case where he was accused of corruption in connection with the reception of several rifles from his former adviser, Fanel Pavalache. Passes over five years after his prosecution, the sentence is not final and may be appealed before the panel of five judges from the Supreme Court. The Court also ordered the defendant to pay the state RON 2,000 in court expenditures. The seven rifles will remain in the state's custody.
According to Mediafax, Mihailescu was given a five-year suspended sentence for receiving undue benefits and one year suspended sentence for the violation of the regime of arms and ammunitions, the punishment retained in the end being one year suspended sentence.
The National Anti-CorĀ­ruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors in March 2006 referred to court Serban Mihailescu, former co-ordinating Minister of the Government Secretariat General, on the charge of reception of undue benefits and violation of the regime of arms and ammunitions in the 'Hunting Rifles' case. According to the indictment, in April - May 2002, Mihailescu received from his former adviser Fanel Pavalache nine hunting rifles worth ROL 264,000,000 ROL, after appointing him his adviser in 2001.

Independent Senator Serban Mihailescu went to the National Anticorruption Division yesterday to see criminal pursuit documents in the case in which he is investigated for failure to observe arms and ammunition regime, legal sources report. According to the procedure, after the presentation of the criminal pursuit document, the file will be finalized, and a decision will be made on whether to indict the suspect or not. On June 2009, the Senate accepted a request from the General Prosecutor's Office to allow a criminal probe against Mihailescu.
He is charged by DNA prosecutors with receiving undue benefits and violating arms and ammunitions regime. Prosecutors say that when he worked as head of the government's General Secretariat, Mihailescu received from his personal adviser, Fanel Pavalache, several hunting guns, although he didn't have a gun license.

The daily "Evenimentul Zilei" disclosed yesterday that the Liberal Deputy Mircea Cosea and the PSD Senator Serban Mihailescu were Securitate officers under cover, according to sources close to CNSAS and the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE).
As far as Serban Mihailescu, alias Miki the Bribe, is concerned, the former Secretary General of the Government headed by Adrian Nastase is also recorded by SIE, having a file of officer under cover, according to sources close to CNSAS and SIE.
