Selim Tezel Email Selim Tezel Selim Tezel Curriculum/Instructional Design Associate II Selim Tezel brings extensive experience in mathematics and computer science education, working with students from kindergarten through high school. He is committed to making learning relevant, exciting and enjoyable for students, while envisioning a constructionist curriculum for the classroom of the future. Tezel is a curriculum designer and developer for the Beauty and Joy of Computing project, which, in collaboration with the University of California-Berkeley and the New York City Public Schools, aims to make computer science accessible and enjoyable for a diverse population of the City's students. Tezel is author of "A Tool for Student Inquiry" which describes his work with students to help them explore complex mathematical questions in creative ways. Before joining EDC, Tezel taught mathematics at schools in the US and abroad, including Robert College of Istanbul, and Concord Academy and the Shady Hill School in Massachusetts, where he developed various constructionist, technology-intensive, project-based learning initiatives in mathematics education. He began his career as a teaching fellow at Phillips Andover Academy, where he taught physics and developed a teaching style based on the Socratic method. Tezel was presented with the 1989 Dudley Herschbach Humanitarian Award by Harvard University and the1990 Mack Davis Award from the Cambridge School Volunteers, a non-profit group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a finalist in the 2001 Brown University New Plays Festival as a playwright, as well as a finalist in the 2003 International Boston Cyberarts Festival as a computational visual artist. Tezel received a BS in mathematics from Harvard University and an ScM in computer science from Brown University.
