Scott Jones
Scott Jones
Scott is a 1995 graduate of the Warnell School of Forest Resources with a BSFR. After graduation he worked for Jefferson Smurfit Corporation as a District Forester and as a Procurement Forester/District Manager.
He then joined the staff of the Georgia Forestry Association as their Forestry Programs Director where he was an advocate on state and local issues concerning their members. Scott worked closely with state and local elected officials representing all interested parties of the forestry community to help ensure a fair and balanced environment for forestry in the state. Scott assisted in the development of fair tree protection ordinances in sprawling counties around Atlanta and effectively educated local businesses and leaders about the benefit of bona-fide forestry practices. Scott conducted and spoke at more than 25 landowner meetings per year and not only carried the good message of forestry but educated landowners on how to become advocates for their forestry practices. Scott was instrumental in the development of a forestry day at the capitol in Atlanta to help match forestry professionals up with their elected leaders and educate them on their needs and concerns.
In 2002 he worked for the Southeastern Lumber Manufactures Association as their Government Affairs Specialist where he worked on federal and state issues concerning independently owned sawmills. Scott worked closely with federal regulatory agencies to ensure fair treatment of small lumber producers on issues such as air and water quality.
He is now the Executive Vice President of the Forest Landowners Association where he oversees the day to day operations of a 10,000 member organization. Scott is only the fourth EVP of this 63 year old association whose mission is to support, through advocacy, education, and information, forest landowner’s responsible management of their private property.
Scott is the 2004 Georgia Division Chairman for the Society of American Foresters and past chairman of the Chattahoochee Chapter of SAF. Scott is a Georgia Registered Forester and a SAF Certified Forester. In 2002 Scott was selected as the Warnell School of Forest Resources Distinguished Young Alumnus. Scott lives in Mableton Georgia with his wife Deborah and daughter Ivey.
