Las Vegas, NV August 28, 2002 On August 7, 2002, Scott Haws, the weekday television anchor for NBC affiliate KVBC in Las Vegas, began a 35-day, 3,335-mile bicycle ride from Los Angeles to New York on behalf of the S.P.I.N. (Supporting People in Need) Foundation, a fund-raising organization whose goal is "to help us remember what we can accomplish when we come together for a common cause as we did following September 11, 2001.
Instead of competing for funding with other charitable organizations, S.P.I.N.
selects established, worthy organizations and helps raise money on their behalf.
is scheduled to arrive in New York on September 11, 2002 to mark the one-year anniversary of the attacks on the city.
Director and founder of S.P.I.N., Haws will be raising money in every city and state through which he travels from pledges and donations which will go to local charities already designated.
