In 2011, Twin Cities Business Magazine named Scott one of "200 Minnesotans You Should Know," while GovDelivery received the Inner City 100 Award as one of the 100 fastest growing companies in the inner city from the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.
Scott serves on the boards of the St. Paul Public Schools Foundation, the Friends of the St. Paul Libraries, the Executive Committee of the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce and loyalty marketing firm, Tecmark. He is also the chair of the St. Paul Community Advisory Committee for the Knight Foundation. Scott started his career as a consultant for McKinsey & Company. He received a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in economics and environmental studies where he skied for Dartmouth's NCAA Division I alpine ski team.

Scott co-founded GovDelivery in 2000 just a few months before the City of St. Paul became the company's first customer. He has spent the past decade supporting his passion of encouraging open government, civic engagement, and technology innovation in the public sector. Scott believes that effective use of technology provides the best opportunity to make both citizens and government better. Prior to co-founding GovDelivery, Scott was the eighth hire at a software company that grew into a 100+ person company and was a consultant at McKinsey and Company. In 2006, Scott was honored with the "Forty Under 40" award from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and was named one of 5 "Emerging Leaders" by Twin Cities Business magazine.
