Significantly, the AICC general secretary gave a clean chit to the Pradesh Congress Committee president Mr Sarat Patnaik who is being targetted by a sizeable faction led by former chief minister J B Patnaik.
"I find the PCC doing its job well.During the past few months, programmes have been organised at various levels to create public awareness against the faulty policies of the State Government," he
observed adding that since Patnaik
had been appointed to the post by none else than Congress president Sonia Gandhi his
authority had to be accepted by everybody in the State.Mr Nath's visit assumes significance in view of the upcoming municipal elections in the State where, unlike in the last panchayat polls, the Congress would find itself pitted against the combined might of Biju Janata Dal and Bhartiya Janata Party.Holding a prolonged session with the block and district presidents of the party on Thursday, the AICC leader chalked out the strategy for the coming polls and how best the party could benefit from the cracks within the ruling alliance. He
also launched a blistering attack on the coalition Government in the State holding it responsible for the deteriorating economic condition of Orissa
.The Congress having lost three successive Assembly by-elections in the State, the municipal elections come as a great opportunity for the party to regain the ground.
