After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin in 1973, Sandy joined Trammell Crow Company as a leasing agent in their Austin office. He became their local managing partner in 1977, and their South Central Region President and Chief Executive Officer in 1986.
While with Trammell Crow, he was instrumental in the planning and development of several landmark Austin developments including The Arboretum, Braker Center, Southpark Center, and Davis Square Historical Redevelopment, 301 Congress Avenue, and Stonecreek Business Park.
In 1993, he left Trammell Crow Company to form The Gottesman Company, which has developed major industrial parks such as Metric Center and TechRidge Business Center, along with other retail and office projects.

Sandy Gottesman moved to Austin as a UT freshman in 1969 and thirty plus years later, true to that early decision, he is still here. Following graduation from the University in 1973, Sandy joined Trammell Crow Company as a leasing agent rising rapidly through its ranks and ultimately serving as its Regional President.
After 20 years with the Trammell Crow Company, Sandy moved in a new direction and in 1993, forming The Gottesman Company.
During the past thirty years, Sandy and his organizations have made an indelible mark on Austin.
Sandy has served on the Board of Directors of Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the UT Elementary School, and the Austin Community Foundation. During his lifetime, Sandy has received many awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award in Real Estate from the Austin Business Journal, the Josiah Wheat Award of Merit for Historic Preservation from the Texas Historical Foundation, the Historic Preservation Award from the Heritage Society of Austin, and the Carl W. Burnette Award for Historic Preservation from the Austin Community Foundation. He was also named 'Austin's Best Developer' by Austin Magazine in February 1986.

In addition to his responsibilities at The Gottesman Company, Sandy is actively involved in the community. His current memberships include the Austin Area Research Organization, the Young President's Organization and Temple Beth Israel. He has also received many awards for his work in the community including the Josiah Wheat Award of Merit for Historic Preservation form the Texas Historical Foundation, the Historic Preservation Award from the Heritage Society of Austin, the Carl W. Burnett Award for Historic Preservation from the Austin Community Foundation and Austin's Best Developer from Austin Magazine.
