"I don't look at the front yard as my property," Garden to Table Chair Sami Monsur said. "I really look at it as a neighborhood garden."

In 2007, Sami moved to her neighborhood in Central San Jose. After starting the neighborhood association in the area, Sami decided to open up her front yard to families who didn't have their own land to grow fresh fruit and vegetables. And since then, they've been harvesting fresh produce from her front yard.
"By giving the neighbors ownership, one can be pleasantly surprised at how it gives them a piece of Mexico and a piece of soil to have of their own," Sami said.
