Samer M. Al-Khawashki, general manager of the Burger King master franchise for the Arab Middle East, said that the region's fast food market has grown at six to eight percent annually during the last five years and that Burger King intends to expand its market share, the Arab News has reported.

The fast food chain is managed in Saudi Arabia by Olayan Food Services Co. and by First Food Services in the UAE, both affiliates of The Olayan Group, which holds the master franchise in the region. Noting that growth is all-important in the fast food business, Al-Khawashki said his company plans "an aggressive expansion program" to increase the number of outlets in the region over the next five years. "Our target is to enhance our market share in the hamburger/sandwich segment from 18 to 23 percent in the next five years," he said.
To accomplish this, Olayan will continue with its successful two-pronged approach of boosting in-store sales as well as its network of outlets. Al-Khawashki said that while the company stresses good taste, health is also a consideration. "BK is a pioneer in fire-grilling and, as a part of our 'Have It Your Way' philosophy, we offer a wide choice of products including lighter options," he said.
