Dr. Sameer Prasad Past IDS president and a professor of Operations Management at University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, Dr. Prasad has been involved in humanitarian work for over 10 years.
After having attended one of the IDS fund-raising events as a guest, like many of those of you here today, Dr. Prasad
found a "home" to take his
academic work and experience and apply it at a grass-roots level through systematic research and data collection that can be replicated in a Hub 'n Spoke Model.
A staunch believer in the right to education, IDS
supported Dr. Prasad
to start hamlet schools in Andhra Pradesh, network six tribal schools and a hostel for tribal children in rural India, and set up education opportunities for rag picker children in the heart of Delhi.
research and systematic data gathering, he
has demonstrated that with a mere $75/year/child contribution, a best-in-class education is not out of reach for poor children in India.
creative ideas, he
has engaged students, universities and government officials for exchange of ideas and open dialogue that allows NGO organizations to learn from each other, something that he
firmly believes is needed in order to scale any socio-economic development organization.
