Sam is a native of Wildwood, New Jersey who attended Wildwood High School and then Rider University earning a bachelors degree in accounting.
After being an auditor for the federal government for a few years he decided to make a switch to law enforcement.
For the past 17 years, he has been a criminal investigator for a few different agencies in the federal government, currently working for the U.S. Postal Service.

Right-hander Simpkins recorded his
2.0 strikeout average in 1988 on his
way to the All County All Star squad.

After college Sam
took some time off from pitching until 2001 when he
started pitching competitively again for an over 30 Team in Cape May.
Since then he
has pitched regularly for several South Jersey MSBL and NJIBL Teams.
has been selected to pitch in the League's All Star Games on numerous occasions.
Most recently, was last year, at 41 years old, when he
played with many much younger players in an over 25 league, and was selected to pitch in the All Star Game at the Wilmington Blue Rocks Stadium.
Sam is a consummate student of the game, constantly studying and researching pitching to hone his own mechanics in an attempt to become an even more complete pitcher.
