It is ultimately the clients that will determine how valuable the T-Charter is, not the transition managers who have drafted it, according to Sam Lundqvist, head of transition management, EMEA, at Russell Investment Group. While it does give clients an indication on what questions they should be raising with their transition manager, Mr Lundqvist also believes that the document does not go far enough. "At the end of the day it's been talked about that it's going to be a level playing field, and that's part of the reason that this was produced. "As long as the trading divisions remain the main source of income for investment banks the interest of the transition client will not coincide with those of bank," suggests Sam Lundqvist of Russell.He explains that since transition clients are infrequent users of investment bank services they will always lose out: "Who will get the best price on securities: the high paying hedge fund client who trades every day with the bank or the low-paying transition client who uses banks once or twice a year?"
