Reverend Sam Boyd served as Senior Pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church from September 1992 until November 2002.
has been described as a Spirit-led man of prayer, a grace-giver, and family man.
had a heart for spontaneous worship and at times would delight the congregation by singing a capella from the pulpit.
Early in Sam's ministry, he
challenged the church to eliminate the outstanding debt, which was around 1.7 million dollars and within two years we had an evening celebration service to burn the note.
Eliminating the debt allowed Mount Vernon
to immediately increase the missions budget by over $250,000.
This increased commitment to missions catapulted Mount Vernon
to be strategic partners in several church plants and develop strategic support with ministry and mission partnerships from Atlanta to the ends of the earth.
was one of the instrumental leaders in the historic formation of our new local association: the Atlanta Association of Southern Baptist Churches
which started June 18, 2001.
