Sally Kosnick, co-director of GRADS (Graduation, Reality and Dual-Role Skills) in Socorro, said the state-wide system began 20 years ago as an in-school program for teenage parents.
"Since then it has added on-site child care centers, career readiness and youth leadership," Kosnick
added the program provides funding to help students learn how to balance work and family roles, encourages prenatal/maternal care to avoid low-birth-weight babies and promotes safe family relationship.
"And this includes fathers, to help get them prepared to be a better, competent parent," Kosnick
is not a just a class; it's a teen parenting program in the traditional school setting which utilizes certified teaching professionals ," Kosnick
said if the board approved the GRADS
program "can be in place for the next fall semester."
