Crimewatch's appeals are generally based on reconstructions of crimes where the villain is an unknown person, says Sally Dixon, the show's series producer.
The show aims to feature cases from all over the UK, and Ms Dixon
says the producers try not to deal with too many similar cases - several rape cases, for example - on the same program.
The police approach the show with ideas for appeals, and they are involved in creating the reconstructions in order for them to be as accurate as possible, Ms Dixon
