SABRA GERTSCH
ANCHOR, K-EYE NEWS WEEKEND
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
...
Sabra finds herself in the heart of Texas after growing up along Salt Lake City's Wasatch Front, home of the greatest snow on earth!Instead of skiing on the slopes, Sabra spent thirteen years in ballet studios studying with The San Francisco Ballet School, and the School of Ballet West with whom she performed several times, including the role of Clara in William Christensen's The Nutcracker.Stepping off the stage and into the stands, Sabra played her favorite role as sister to two younger brothers, cheering them on to all-state football achievements and Montana State University track scholarships.Sabra tried a bit of everything before being bitten by the news bug: singing, dancing, and acting. Then, surrounded by wonderful mentors at the University of Utah, and prodded by a mother and father who support all her passions, she set her sights on becoming a roving reporter.Right now she is savoring her opportunity to work in a city that thrives on intellect and politics, and one that offers a potpourri of culture and technology.
EDUCATION
...
Sabra started her television experience at the University of Utah, behind the camera and in the archives. She worked with an Emmy Award-winning documentary staff in weaving together the threads of history for a KUED-PBS special on Mormon Prophet Brigham Young. Her experience at KUED, along with internships at KTVX-News4Utah, prepared her to be the recipient of the 1997 Hinckley Institute of Politics ABC NEWS Internship. Her time at ABC NEWS PrimeTime LIVE in the nation's capitol allowed her to step inside the framework of a national news program, and afforded her a front row view of the political scene. She participated in national coverage of the 1997 Presidential Inauguration and State of the Union Address in addition to working with various ABC correspondents and crews covering White House, Justice Department and Congressional news events.Any doubts about a career path were lost after working in the office of Anchor Sam Donaldson. It was there that journalism became an adventure.Sabra returned to the West to anchor News Three this Morning and News Three at Noon, for the CBS affiliate in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She traded the Snake for the Colorado River when she moved to Austin in June 2000 to join the K-EYE News team. She is a reporter and anchors K-EYE News Weekend.
INTERESTS
...
Sabra is a collector of classic movie memorabilia. She loves anything Audrey, but Vivien Leigh runs a close second. She craves opportunities to travel, but in fact her favorite hobby is visiting obscure historical landmarks, some of her favorites are the Teapot Dome and Pompey's Pillar. She tries to take advantage of the great outdoors, and enjoys camping with her brothers at Calf Creek in Southern Utah. She looks forward to rainy days, good food, good books and good conversation. She loves seeing the places history happened, and whenever there's music, Sabra loves to dance.
