But ARA chief executive Russell Zimmerman said while it would be a big day for the sector, spending could be even higher if there were not limits on trading hours in New South Wales.
"One of the disappointing areas... is we know that in Victoria they'll probably do about $682 million, whereas in New South Wales, where there are some very draconian trading hours, we are only forecasting around $584 million," Mr Zimmerman

ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman said red tape and over-compliance are major issues for business owners.
He said the federal Government is trying to remove this burden from all businesses but the opposition refuses to show its support, which comes at a severe cost to business.
"The current system is overly complex and burdens business with having to carry the costs of changing their payroll systems and the additional paperwork," Mr Zimmerman

The ARA is encouraged that the unfair dismissal changes will assist small business and illustrates that the Government is hearing the concerns of small and medium businesses, ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman said.
